Collective Worship

At Urchfont Church of England Primary School, Collective Worship is at the heart of each school day. It is a time for reflection, celebration, and learning about Christian values, helping our children grow spiritually, socially, and emotionally.

Daily Worship

We hold daily Collective Worship, always introduced and concluded by our Worship Warrior team of children. The central part of the worship is then led by:

  • The Head Teacher
  • Class teachers
  • Children, through our Worship Warrior team
  • Rev Richard Curtis or other members of the local Church team

At every daily Collective Worship, we:

  • Sing hymns and songs together
  • Say our School Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer
  • Pause for reflection

One day each week, Collective Worship takes the form of singing practice. This still includes all the key features of worship, such as prayer, reflection, and hymns, helping children to develop their musical skills while engaging in worship.

Members of the ‘Open the Book’ team, drawn from across the church community, visit most weeks to share Bible readings and teachings in a fun and engaging way.

Child-Led Worship

Child-led worship began in 2025 with the creation of our Worship Warrior team, made up of children from Owls Class. The Worship Warriors help lead worship, prepare prayers, and support the school community in reflecting on our values.

Celebration Worship

At the end of each term, we hold a whole-school Celebration Assembly, where parents are invited to join us in celebrating children’s achievements. In these assemblies we celebrate both academic and personal achievements. A key focus is made on our focus Christian value for the term.

Community Worship

Our children take part in worship in the wider community, including visits to our village church, St Michael’s and All Angels. Services are led by Rev Richard Curtis or one of his colleagues and celebrate major Christian festivals, including:

  • Harvest
  • Christmas Christingle
  • Easter
  • Year 6 Leavers’ Service

In addition, we hold special in-school services, such as:

  • Remembrance Service in November
  • Christmas Nativity in December

Our Owls Class children also regularly attend the Mother’s Union Eucharist service in church each month, where they read Bible passages, say prayers, and assist throughout the service.

All members of the community — including parents, grandparents, governors, and village residents — are invited to join us for these services.

Prayer in School

Prayer is a regular part of life at Urchfont:

  • Children pray during Collective Worship and before lunch
  • At the end of the day, children say a thoughtful verse
  • During every Collective Worship, children say our School Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer
  • Reflection is a key part of each worship, helping children think about their own learning, values, and actions

Our School Prayer

We light this candle….

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.
